NZSL expert signing: Auckland Council runs a series of events called “Movies in Parks”; this means showing movies on a big screen in various parks throughout Auckland.

NZSL expert signing: These are free events for all people to enjoy, especially families. During last year’s run of movies, Auckland Council made some of the movies available with captions, meaning Deaf people, hard of hearing people, and their families could enjoy the movies more easily.

NZSL expert signing: Feedback for these events was very positive, with many people saying they enjoyed the experience, so Auckland Council has agreed to repeat this feature in 2020.

NZSL expert signing: However, this year, the number of captioned movies has been increased to 20!

NZSL expert signing: Some of the movies are new releases while others are old favourites. All films are chosen for families to enjoy.

NZSL expert signing: The movies begin just after sunset when it gets dark, however earlier in the evening there are other activities in the parks to enjoy with various stalls, including food and information tents.

NZSL expert signing: NZSL interpreters will be onsite if you want to use them to access any of the stalls or information before the movies start.

NZSL expert signing: Remember the movies start after dark so bring some warm clothing, a blanket and a torch to see where you are walking. You can bring your own food, like a picnic or buy food from the stalls and food vans at the park.
